So Who's Kaster?
Kaster are an unsigned 4 piece band from Glasgow in Scotland. We emerged from the
band Glide after the sad passing of Stu Tasker in 2002. We bring
together a wide range of influences and a love and enthusiasm for playing our
various instruments.
We play all our own material which we hope will engage listeners from most backgrounds.
We play piano and guitar based songs with strong melody lines. We seek to create a clean
sound which lifts by way of clever arrangements and skillfull songwriting.
The Early Years
The earliest roots of the band can be traced to September 97 when founding members
Matthew Wood, Craig Wood(siblings) and Colin Wood (non-sibling) teamed up for
a few covers at
Craig's 18th birthday bash. The band were joined by the experienced Richard
Aitken on guitars and lead vocals and Barry Roulsden on bass.
The result of which was a shambolic, rock and roll fun packed episode which was
well recieved by a rowdy crowd.
After this initial high, progress nose dived. Roulsden, frustrated
by lack of opportunities, fled to a rival band shortly followed by Aitken who left due
to creative differences.
The Argyle Sessions
The remaining trio comprising Matt Wood (vocals), Colin Wood (guitars) and
Craig Wood (drums), lacked direction and struggled to establish themselves until the
arrival of Stuart Tasker on lead guitar with Colin Wood moving onto bass. Tasker's awesome
technical ability and imagination on lead guitar was the catalyst for the creative
emergence of the band. Now practicing at Argyle Studios, under the name of Glide,
the band cut two demo cd's with producer Brian (Big Frank), including favourites,
'Some Day',
'Far From Home' and
'Shotokhan'.
Following the relocation of Craig Wood to Aberdeen due to work commitments, Glide
struggled to follow up their studio work by breaking onto the Glasgow band scene.
Band-mate and Buddy
Sadly in October 2002, Stuart Tasker lost a long term fight with illness robbing
the band of a great player and an even greater pal.
Stuarts expertise and spirit were a privilege and a blessing to the band, we will
always treasure the times we shared with him.
Now and Everywhere
In an attempt to fill the huge creative void left by Stuart's passing, Matthew Wood brought
his first instrument, piano, to the band. With Colin gradually easing back into guitar,
Gregor Lang temporarily stepped in to play bass, a role which was to be filled long term
by the arrival of Andy Barnes.
Barnes, a classically trained pianist in his own right, with dedication and enthusiasm,
migrated instruments with apparent ease.
Due to Craig Wood's base in Aberdeen, band practices found their way to
the Stage 2000 venue in Dundee.
With Matthew Wood thriving compositionally with his native instrument
and Craig Wood, burned by love (not to mention the sunbeds), producing some heart-aching
lyrics, the band had rediscovered themselves and a new dynamic and exciting sound.
The members decided to rename the band
Kaster, an anagram of the name Tasker, by way
of a small tribute to the great times and great music we created with Stuart. Under this
new name, the band finds itself in an exciting new era. With the first new demo,
'
Now and Everywhere', produced and already receiving rave reviews on
www.garageband.com,
the band also played their first gig at Fury Murrays on the 28th January 2005.
